In the book, so far, they have talked a lot about religion and the tiger in the book is a metaphor for God but they don’t really talk about it much in the film. Personally, I think the film only highlights on Pi’s decision to follow three different religions but I think that they should’ve showed more of the journey he went through in deciding to follow these religions and how his family felt about him following these religions. Based on my reading from pp.60-93, one thing that David Magee and Ang Lee left out of the film- that originally occurred in the novel- that they should have found a way to keep in the film’s story is the part in the book where all three of the religious leaders meet with Pi and his parents. So far, all of his chapters have been weirdly arranged but I think that is what makes him a good writer.Ģ. This type of chapter arranging fits Yann Martel’s style of writing. If the author did it for some metaphorical reason, then I’m not really sure why he did it like this. I think it was effective because he did exactly that. I think putting the chapters in this order allows the audience to understand Pi’s life today and also back when he was a child. Yann Martel put the chapters in this order because he wanted to switch between the present and the past to give the audience a break from the story. The film attempts to show this same struggle at the dinner table when Pi’s father tells him that he can only worship one god, but i think the book does a more effective job of explaining it by bringing all of the teachers together.ġ. It shows how unreligious they actually are. The sequence adds depth to Pi as a character as well as his Father and Mother.

I dont think it would have been too hard to keep in the movie either, just throw it in right after it shows Pi beginning to pray to Allah. I think it shows Pi’s struggle with religion and should have been kept in the movie. The scene when all of Pi’s religious teacher came together and confronted each other about pi’s true religious orientation. The magic in the zoo could is displayed in the same way that Pi’s wife is, in the background, discreet, regal.
The narrator points this out when he says that he did not notice many of the things in his home such as his wife. The chapter before the Kumar scene is thrown in there to show that while Pi has many possessions that he is proud of, he often does not show them off. Previously he explains how hard it is to take care of all of the animals, but when he brings the Kumars to the zoo it highlights how much delight it brings him to share the magic of the zoo with other people. The effect was to show how proud of the zoo Pi actually was.
