Note: Firefox cannot launch a PDF in an external program like Foxit Reader without saving the file to disk (Firefox passes the file path to the program). Check the about:policies page, "Active" panel, for any live policies. If that preference is locked to true, this can be caused by Enterprise Policy on managed systems. (3) If the preference is bolded and has a value of true, double-click it to restore the default value of false (2) In the search box in the page, type or paste pdfjs.disabled and pause while the list is filtered (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. If that is not available or does not work, check this preference: The default setting is "Open in Firefox", which uses the built-in PDF viewer. Thanks for making suggestions that I may be able to use if needed later.įirefox will not open a PDF in the Browser either. Firefox continues to not open a PDF in the browser, but this is a feature I do not need or use. I remember now having to reinstall Foxit Reader earlier and now I know that this re installation reset my Foxit Reader print preferences.

I can print to Foxit Reader and Firefox saves the file to the designated folder and then opens the PDF file in Foxit Reader without any typing or further clicks of the mouse. Under Print Preferences I found that the previous setup had been zeroed out, I set it back up and all is back to normal. I then found at the bottom of the Print destination popup, which I could not see until I scrolled down, a link to "print using system dialog". I decided to try Chrome and low and behold trying to print to PDF in Chrome was now the same as Firefox, asking to save the file first before viewing the PDF. This file goes directly to the printer and is not saved in the default download folder.

The only printing destination selection that did ask to save the PDF file first was print to my Samsung Printer. I test printed using each destination choice in Firefox and documented the results. How do I turn off the "save file" feature? Thanks in advance. I am hoping someone here may have some suggestion on how to get Firefox to open files in Foxit Reader and not ask to save the file first. Firefox will not open a PDF in the Browser either. I originally thought some extension I added caused the problem and I tried printing the PDF with all extension disabled but that had no effect on the results either. I tried "always ask' and that doesn't work, I have actually tried ever setting in the applications menu and no matter which one I select Firefox wants me to save the file first. I removed Firefox deleting all Mozilla folders and re installed a later version 111.01 and the problem continues. I prefer to view the file before I save it to my hard drive and this has worked until recently. Over night Firefox somehow switched from opening PDF files in Foxit Reader to prompting me to save the file first then it opens the file in Foxit Reader after it is saved.
